TRC20 vs ERC20 Wallet Address: What's the Difference?

TRC20 and ERC20 are the two most popular networks for USDT transfers, but they are completely separate blockchains. Sending USDT to the wrong network address will result in permanent loss of funds.

When you see USDT available on multiple networks, you must choose the correct one before sending or receiving. TRC20 (TRON) and ERC20 (Ethereum) are the two most commonly used, but they are NOT compatible with each other.

Key Differences

  • TRC20 starts with T; ERC20 starts with 0x — easy to distinguish.
  • TRC20 fees are much lower than ERC20 fees.
  • Sending to the wrong network results in permanently lost funds.
That immediately brought to mind one of my fondest memories, involving my daughter when she was just a toddler of one.
